I Tried Delicious Raw’s Vegan Food & Here’s What I Ordered

This place now has one of my favorite burgers in Miami

[bigletter]I’ve always been the biggest chicken #nopunintended, when it comes to trying out vegan or vegetarian dishes. It’s hard for me, because I have lived my whole life eating Colombian and Italian meals at home, so it’s hard out here for someone with my nutritional patterns. However, I’ve never been one to knock trying new things out, precisely because I always look forward to being pleasantly surprised, and that was the case with my visit to Delicious Raw in Sunset Harbour. Delicious Raw’s Miami Beach location is the second one within Miam-Dade County. There is one more in Aventura – which is North of the City of Miami – and there is an additional one located in Davie, which is west and about 40 minutes from Aventura. Where the Hard Rock Hotel and Stadium are, that is Davie. While I took my weekend trip in Miami Bach, I stopped by the location in Sunset Harbour. The ambiance is calm, fresh and modern…like its food. The space’s warm and welcoming aspect is embellished in what looks like wooden walls, as well as regular dining tables mixed with sofas and lounging chairs, so a group of friends can sit down, put all the food on the center table and feast on healthy version of sandwiches, salads, burgers and bowls.

Whenever I’m invited to eat someplace and try the food, I’m always conflicted, because I wish I had the appetite to order lots of things and eat them, but though I love to eat, my appetite isn’t massive. I get full really quickly and I do not like wasting food, so I always choose the one item that looks the most appetizing within the menu, or what I am craving, On that occasion it was a burger, so I chose the Nobl Burger. It’s a vegan burger, with everything freshly made in house. The patty is sandwiched into scratchmade pickles, baby spinach and roasted tomato, portobello and bermuda onion. The fresh vegan brioche bun, smoked aioli and truffle infused garlic dijon complement the ‘meat’ and it’s an explosion of flavors in every bite. As a side, you get sweet potato fries or a salad and homemade ketchup prepared with beets – yum! I’m not a fan of beets, and I’m vouching for this ketchup.

Luckily I brought my mom with me, so I was able to taste something else in order to properly cheerlead over the food. She ordered the 3Sixty bowl which is a marriage of purple barley, kale, roasted sweet potato, zucchini and caramelized peppers, topped with avocado, house-made 3Sixty Sauce and pistachio and cilantro. I can’t really say which one I loved more, however, I can’t wait to go back and be able to order one of the two. The choice will depend on what I’m craving – or perhaps I’ll dive into a third option and continue exploring their greatly curated menu. Their Vegan Pad Thai and Buddha Bowl are two exciting options I look forward to trying next.

For breakfast lovers, delicious raw also has options such as the Tropic bowl, Açaí bowl and Pitaya bowl. Other great options available for on-the-go as well as for a hang-out on the couches are the juices. I tried two really refreshing options: the green one, listed on the menu as the Immunity, is a finely pressed mixture of grapefruit, apple, spinach and celery. The orange one, called the Glow Raw, is a concoction of carrot, pineapple, and ginger. Since it’s an open kitchen, you can see how they prepare everything for you, which I guess will bring some peace of mind to the germaphobes; but that is just an assumption.

I highly recommend that visitors take the time to sit down and eat the food at the location. Everything ‘for here‘ is served in glass plates and cups. This is fantastic in my book, because it diminishes the use of plastic at any cost. I am truly a huge supporter of companies and businesses that are doing their best to avoid using singe-use plastic, and Delicious Raw welcomes guests to have quickly prepared foods, in a healthy way and served in bowls that aren’t plastic. They also sell beverages available for take away in glass bottles, which is also very useful. You can reuse the bottle without worrying about toxins released by the particles in the glass like we do with plastic.

For those who don’t want a juice, but still want refreshing options, they serve the Pure Love kombucha, with rose, blood orange and hibiscus.

With the changes in our nutrition and the continuous growth of businesses and locations that have as a mission to serve and offer foods that truly nurture us from the inside out while leaving the margins of what is considered boring and bland or tasting unpleasant, I truly believe that Delicious Raw is a unique spot that is one step ahead of the game in fresh, vegan and veggie alternatives that anyone will like, and my Miami folks are SO LUCKY they have it here and on demand whenever they want. I’ll definitely be craving their burger from my flat in London sometimes, and hoping for the day that they open in other cities I frequent in my travels.
